I made my first trip down to Topaz Mountain, Utah this last weekend. It was primarily a scouting trip since I found that we didn't have near enough time available to do it "right". Even riding on quads, the ampitheather or cove area as it is known, is much larger than it initially appears. On this first trip, we found lots of the common sand impregnated topaz crystals and a few of the sherry colored ones. Hopefully, next trip we will be able to find a more productive spot to collect. The nearby Agate Hill area was much more productive. It is found down a dirt road off of Brush Wellman approximately 1 mile before the turn off to Topaz Mtn as coming from either Lynndyl or Delta. As you round the hill, there will be a dirt road with a very steep climb at the end approximately 1.5 miles in and to the right. The tops of these hills are covered with yellow and red jaspers and agates, as well as geodes. The agate and jasper are in loose chunks and in many exposed seams.

If you are going to Topaz Mountain, you better have heavy duty tools. We went after watching Cash and Treasures, and were sorely disappointed. The amount of effort it took was not enough. We really needed more heavy duty tools. Even the professional Rockhound we met said it was slim pickings. We did find lots of tiny crystals in Rock.
We had much better luck at Agate Hill, where, indeed, there are easy, beautiful pickings of wonderful agate, jasper, and we even found large beds of solid agate. It was great.
If you have time, take a side trip to Fossil Mountain, where we found lots of wonderful pieces of fossilized shells.

The Furthest Distance in the World --- Jim and Pam in The Office

Jim and Pam are acknowledged as an extremely nice looking couple by everyone in the office. Their relationship makes me think of Tagore's The Furthest Distance in the World---

"The furthest distance in the world
Is not when i stand in front of you
Yet you can’t see my love
But when undoubtedly knowing the love from both
Yet cannot Be togehter"

Human emotion is a subtle thing. In the boundless huge crowd you could always find the right one who's congenial to you and could touch each other's hearts. Jim and Pam is such a right pair.
